As a mid-range model, the Galaxy S24+ completes the trio of the new Samsung flagship alongside the Galaxy S24 (test report) and Galaxy S24 Ultra (test report). Compared to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S23+ (test report), at first glance little has changed in terms of technical features. What’s new is the CPU, which Samsung itself provides. Visually, the Plus model is similar to the small S24, but is significantly larger. The focus of this model is also on the expanded and new AI functions of Galaxy AI.
The spotlight in advertising and reporting is usually on the Ultra model as the top flagship, and many are also enthusiastic about the compact S24, which is the entry-level model in terms of price. The question arises as to whether the Plus model is somewhere between two stools or is the golden mean? The test report shows how good the S24+ is and whether it can be considered the “golden mean”.

The Samsung Galaxy S24+ is definitely one of the best Android smartphones. The changes may be rather small – apart from the new, extensive AI functions. But there are meaningful improvements in the details. If the Samsung Galaxy S24 (test report) is too small for you, but the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (test report) is too expensive, the S24+ is the perfect compromise.
The display is really good and radiantly bright, now even measuring 6.7 inches – with the same housing size as its predecessor. The workmanship and design are again impeccable and at the top level. The technical equipment largely corresponds to the Galaxy S24. In other words: The Exynos provides around 10 percent more power compared to the chip from the Samsung Galaxy S23+ (test report). From 1006 euros it starts with 256 GB, the version with 512 GB costs around 1079 euros.

Narrow edges mean that the display now measures 6.7 inches diagonally instead of 6.6 inches. An Exynos 2400 from Samsung serves as the drive. This outperforms the Qualcomm chip from the previous model by around 10 percent, but cannot quite keep up with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the S24 Ultra. The performance is still top and should have enough reserves for the next few years.
The biggest innovations are the AI functions known as Galaxy AI, which, among other things, turn the S24+ into a virtual interpreter. The battery has also gained 200 mAh in capacity and now offers 4900 mAh.
How big is the Samsung Galaxy S24+?
The dimensions largely correspond to its predecessor and are: 158.5 × 75.9 × 7.7 mm with a weight of 196 g. The design with the three striking camera lenses and the angular housing is roughly the same as the S24. However, the Plus model is significantly larger, but slightly slimmer and shorter than the Ultra model. However, the S24+ is too large for one-handed operation.
The large OLED display is absolutely convincing with a razor-sharp resolution of 3120 × 1440 pixels and a variable refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hertz. The display is always readable even when the sun is shining. Samsung is talking about up to 2600 nits.
How good is the camera?
There is little new here, the setup is the same as its predecessor: main camera with 50 megapixels, wide-angle lens with 12 megapixels and telephoto lens with 10 megapixels. The camera delivers photos with high details, good sharpness and balanced dynamic range, both during the day and in the evening or at night. The night mode paired with the OIS do a good job. Videos are possible in up to 8K at 30 FPS or in 4K at 60 FPS and are excellently stabilized.

How good is the equipment?
The Exynos 2400 turns out to be a positive surprise after the S22 series with Samsung’s own chip caused great disappointment. The Koreans have apparently learned something new. The chip outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 from its predecessor. We achieved 17,400 points on PCmark, and an impressive 4250 points on 3Dmark’s “Wild Life Extreme”. Only the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 from the Galaxy S24 Ultra (test report) is even stronger. In everyday life, this means a blazingly fast smartphone with a smooth user interface.
Everything else is at the top level. The main memory is 12 GB of RAM, and the internal memory is either 256 GB or 512 GB with the fastest type, UFS 4.0. The housing is again waterproof to IP68. Also on board are UWB, NFC, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E as well as USB-C 3.2 and multi-band GNSS for navigation.

How much does the Samsung Galaxy S24+ cost?
The RRP for the model with 12/256 GB is 1149 euros. The price now starts at just over 1000 Euro Come on. The variant with 512 GB is at least 1079 Euro with an RRP of 1249 euros. There are numerous colors to choose from: black, light gray, purple, yellow, orange or light green.

How good are the AI functions?
Things get exciting with AI features on the camera. These can remove shadows or reflections from photos or straighten crooked subjects. This works perfectly. Comprehensively altered images don’t look quite as good, for example if you want to make people disappear from the subject. The photos edited using AI are then given a star as a mark – to prevent “deepfakes”.
An outstanding feature is live translation for phone calls in multiple languages. However, the translation takes time, which can lead to overlaps with new statements. Accuracy varies and there is potential for fine-tuning. The S24+ is also suitable as a translation device – even offline.
Summarizing texts and text formatting are less convincing because they rarely get to the heart of the main text. The spell checker is also inconsistent. Another interesting feature is the image search. If you press the home button and then circle a specific area on the display, such as a photo, a search for it is triggered. It works surprisingly well.
How long are updates available?
Samsung has made further improvements and now offers the same conditions as Google: In the future, there will be security patches and Android updates for 7 years. Android 14 is already running ex works. Software updates are available on a monthly basis and are available promptly and reliably.
How long does the battery last?
Like its predecessor, the S24+ has an excellent battery life of 13.5 hours in the PCmark battery test. This means the phone can easily last for one, if not two days. Charging is less fast: a maximum of 45 watts is available; Samsung does not include a power supply for “sustainability reasons”. Wireless charging is possible up to 15 watts.
