YouTube first in preferences of the under 30s, first among the 30-50 year olds, first among the 50-65 year olds and first also for the over 65s: according to a recent survey (This) del Pew Research Center, Google’s video upload platform is practically the only one to have truly intergenerational success. To have audience in all age groupsIn short.
The research, conducted from May to September 2023 and referring to the United States, examined the main social networks: from precursors such as Facebook and Twitter (which for now is called LinkedIn and WhatsApp, passing through smaller sites such as PinterestSnapchat and Reddit up to TikTok and indeed YouTube.

The use of (almost) all social networks is growing
What has emerged, as can be seen from the two graphs above, is that the Google app is the social media most used by each generation interviewed: an incredible 93% of young American adults said they use it regularly, as did 92% of 30-44 year olds and 60% of those over 65.
Instagram and especially Facebook have a similar penetration, albeit with lower values, but the case of the oldest of the social networks is very significant: although indicated as perpetually in crisis, it still has around 3 billion users and paradoxically it arouses more interest in the under 30s than in the over 65s.
Another interesting aspect, when compared with similar research also conducted by the Pew Research Center in 2021 (it’s this one), shows how the risk of addiction to smartphones and these tools has definitely not decreased, given that most platforms have recorded significant increases in reported use among people of all age groups. With little surprise, from this point of view the winner is TikTok: 33% of US adults said they use it regularly, compared to 21% in the previous survey.
