Japanese Company Lion Develops Special Fragrance Stick for Astronauts on International Space Station
The International Space Station, orbiting just 408 kilometers above Earth, is home to astronauts who work, live, eat, and drink in close quarters. However, the confined space can lead to unpleasant odors and a monotonous environment. To improve the quality of life for astronauts, Lion, a major Japanese household products manufacturer, has developed a special fragrance stick.
Lion’s research and development team utilized an AI system to select the most pleasant scents out of 900 options. Three scents were specifically designed for the International Space Station, with input from Japanese astronaut Kamiya Yukai.
The first scent, “Pure Soap,” offers a comforting aroma reminiscent of warm soap and effectively eliminates odors. The second scent, “Moss Temple,” creates a tranquil atmosphere inspired by Japanese temple moss. The last scent, “Woody Fresh,” adds a natural vitality to space life.
Using the fragrance stick is simple – astronauts can apply it to their neck, wrists, and skin to release a pleasant scent in the cabin and alleviate psychological stress. This innovation aims to enhance the living environment on the International Space Station and improve the astronauts’ wellbeing during their missions.
