People really, really love The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The Switch exclusive is currently one of the highest-scoring games of all time on Metacritic, suggesting it’s been a resounding success with critics, and the latest box sales figures in the UK seem to suggest consumers are hooked on the sequel, too.

Tears of the Kingdom has broken Hogwarts Legacy’s record to become the UK’s biggest boxed game launch in 2023, and has already sold 50% of its copies, Gamesindustry.biz reports. Unsurprisingly, this also cemented the game’s biggest Zelda launch in UK history, with opening sales more than 2.7 times that of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Likewise, Tears of the Kingdom is already the eighth-biggest Zelda game of all time in the UK, and the fourth-biggest Zelda game of all time in the country in terms of revenue alone.

When looking at copies that have shipped, Tears of the Kingdom trails Pokémon Scarlet/Violet as the UK’s biggest Switch launch ever, but does beat Game Freak’s as the UK’s biggest Switch launch ever in a revenue sense.

As for this week’s boxed charts, Zelda takes the top spot, Hogwarts Legacy, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, FIFA 23, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, Dead Island 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Minecraft Legends make up the rest of the list, respectively.
