Sony’s PS5 Surpasses Nintendo Switch in Sales for Two Consecutive Weeks

The new year has brought good news for Sony, as the release of powerful new PS5 games has boosted console sales. According to the latest data from Japan’s “Famitsu”, Sony’s PS5 has rarely surpassed Nintendo Switch in sales for two consecutive weeks.

The statistics from “Famitsu” show that from January 22 to 28, Sony sold a total of 49,945 digital and disc versions of the PS5, surpassing the total sales of Nintendo Switch, including OLED models and Lite, which reached 46,435 units.

The reason behind Sony’s surge in sales can be attributed to the continued sales boom of the “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” bundled machine. Additionally, the Nintendo Switch has entered the end of its life cycle, and there has been a lack of strong new games to drive buying momentum for the console. On the other hand, the PlayStation camp has seen strong support from SEGA’s “Dragon Among Us 8” and Bandai’s “Tekken 8”.

The game sales rankings also reflect Sony’s dominance, with the PS5 version of “Dragon Among Us 8” taking the top spot with 102,940 units sold. The PS4 version of the game also ranked third with 77,134 units. The second best-selling game was “The Ever-Changing Labyrinth of the Wind: Xi Lian 6: The Adventure Story of Snakou Island”, released on the Switch, which sold 85,424 units in its first week. The fourth and fifth spots were also occupied by PS5 games, “Marvel Spider-Man 2” and “Tekken 8”.

However, Nintendo managed to secure one spot in the top five, with the 6-10 best-selling games being occupied by Switch titles that have remained popular with players for many years.

While Sony’s PS5 has shown impressive sales figures, the Nintendo Switch continues to hold its ground with a strong lineup of long-standing popular games.

As the rivalry between the two gaming giants continues, it will be interesting to see how the sales dynamics evolve in the coming weeks.
