AC Milan is going through a bad patch. After losing at Monza (2-4) on February 18, then at Rennes (2-3) on Thursday, which did not call into question their qualification for the round of 16 of the Europa League, the Rossoneri continued this Sunday evening a third disappointing result in a row, conceding a draw at home (1-1) against Atalanta Bergamo, as part of the 26th day of Serie A.
Following this result, Milan maintains its third place, but loses ground on Juve (second) and Inter (first), who, earlier in the day, had respectively won against Frosinone (3 -2) and Lecce (0-4).
Stefano Pioli’s players can blame themselves because they largely dominated this meeting with 68% possession and 20 shots, compared to 8 for Atalanta. Especially since the Rossoneri quickly opened the scoring, with a personal exploit from Rafael Leao, who magnificently erased Emil Holm then Giorgio Scalvini, before curling a nice shot which nestled in the side net (1-0 , 3rd).
The Bergamasques then equalized on a penalty converted by Teun Koopmeiners (1-1, 42nd), which was caused by a foul by Olivier Giroud on Holm, although not obvious. After the break, AC Milan accumulated dangerous situations, but Ruben Loftus-Cheek (59th and 77th) and Davide Calabria (61st) saw their attempts repelled by Marco Carnesecchi, while Christian Pulisic narrowly missed the target, before a strike from Giroud was pushed back on the line by Davide Zappacosta (80th). Milan had missed their chance.
