[Indonesia CNBC Jakarta]The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) officially released the State-owned Power Company’s Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) for the period 2021 to 2030 on Tuesday.
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif, said that the current Covid-19 pandemic has made forecasts for the growth of national electricity demand lower than previously expected.
In the power supply business plan from 2019 to 2028, the national power demand growth is expected to reach an average of 6.4% per year. However, due to the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic since last year, the government expects that the national power consumption growth of the power supply business plan from 2021 to 2030 will drop to an average of 4.9% per year.
He said in a webinar on the dissemination of the power supply business plan of the state-owned power company from 2021 to 2030, “The power growth of the previous power supply business plan is no longer in line with the estimated situation from 2021 to 2030. We expect the power demand from 2021 to 2030. An average increase of 4.9%.”
Zulkifli Zaini, managing director of the State Power Company, also made the same tone. He said that the power supply business plan from 2021 to 2030 was prepared in the context of the uncertainty of demand caused by the new crown pneumonia pandemic.
He said that the power growth in 2020 will be negative 0.79%, so that the power growth in the next 10 years is expected to average 4.9% per year, which is lower than the power supply business plan for 2019-2028, which is 6.4% per year.
He explained, “On the other hand, most of the 35 gigawatt (GW) project power plants planned since 2015 have entered the construction phase and will soon start operations. This will likely oversupply because power The supply is large but the demand is low.” (xin)
