Afghanistan, 32 dead in the attack on the Shiite mosque in Kandahar

At least 32 have died and 53 have been injured by explosions in a Shiite mosque in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Health sources report it. “Thirty-two people died and another 53 injured were taken to our hospital,” said a doctor from the main hospital in the southern sector of the city.

“Special forces of the Islamic Emirate arrived on the scene to define the nature of the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice,” said the spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior of the Taliban government, Qari Saeed Khosti, in a statement released by the news site Aamaj News who begins by stating that “we are saddened to learn that an explosion occurred in a Shiite brothers’ mosque in the first district of the city of Kandahar, in which several of our compatriots were killed or injured”.

Turkey’s reaction is harsh: “We strongly condemn the inhumane terrorist attacks in Afghanistan which in the last period have mainly affected mosques”, said the Turkish Foreign Ministry with a statement. After meeting with Islamic Emirate officials, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu had drawn the international community’s attention to the consequences of the recent terrorist attacks in Afghanistan, asking that the country be averted humanitarian catastrophe.
