After the Oscar nomination: On the trail of Sandra Hülser in Thuringia

Youth in Friedrichroda

It’s slowly becoming known again that she spent her youth in Friedrichroda – POS, Abi, theater courses, parties, cinema, swimming pool discos. Sandra Hülser took all of this with her, says Annett Fuchs. She was in a class with the now famous actress. In 1996 they graduated from high school together at the Friedrichroda high school.

“As it was back then, we were always together as a class, at school, on school trips, at the disco,” said Annett Fuchs. “But Sandra was always a little different than most. She had many interests. One of them was the English language. She didn’t just speak English. She thought English.” Today the Friedrichroda native works in the city’s tourist information office.

First steps to a world career in theater

The first steps of her world career Sandra Hülser actually in a theater course of high school. “It was clear to us that acting would be her passion,” says school friend Fuchs. She last had contact with the actress in 2006. Sandra Hülser came home to celebrate her tenth high school anniversary. She also gave an interview to the school newspaper that weekend.

Otherwise, the 45-year-old is considered closed to the media. For example, she keeps her private life completely out of the public eye. People in Friedrichroda would like to see more contact again. “We always send her the city’s annual calendar. We never got an answer. But we also don’t know whether her agency ever delivered it,” says Mayor Thomas Klöppel (independent).

Hülser also lived in Oberhof

Sandra Hülser’s traces can also be found on the corner of Alexandrinenstrasse and Grokelweg in Friedrichroda. After moving from Oberhof, she lived there in a small house with her family – just ten meters from the POS, now the mainstream school. There is a small picture of the 1996 graduating class hanging in the hallway of Perthes High School. Sandra Hülser’s hair was even shorter back then than it is today.
