The race started from the municipality of Corrales with the expectation of what the World Tour circuit runners could do, the public cheered them from the start and hoped to see them crowned champions in the capital of Boyacá. Very early, emotions were given free rein, three riders tried to leave, but the peloton had them very close and they were neutralized, however, the hostilities would not remain with just these three cyclists.

About twenty runners put together the good escape, the one that would carry the champion inside them. It was made up of six GW Erco Shimano cyclists: Frank Osorio, Juan Carlos López, Edgar Andrés Pinzón, Daniel Arroyave, Róbinson López and Alejandro Osorio; two from Team Medellín: Víctor Ocampo and Julián Cardona; three from Nu Colombia: Cristian Muñoz, Anderson Arboleda and Manuel Herrera; two from Paisa Pride: Johan Colón and Felipe Osorio; two from Sistecrédito: Jaider Muñoz and David Gómez, in addition to Germán Gómez from Polti Kometa, Hernán Darío Gómez from Fundecom, Bernardo Suaza from Petrolike, Fabián Espinel from Boyacá, José Rubio del Valle and Jordan Tabares from Caldas.

The breakaway managed to have an advantage of almost 6 minutes until the reaction came from behind. With less than 50 km to go, an attack was launched from the peloton of favorites, from there they started: Egan Bernal and Brandon Rivera from Ineos Grenadiers, Sergio Higuita from Bora Hansgrohe, Jonathan Chaves from Nu Colombia and Kevin Castillo from Sistecrédito, they They approached the leaders. Finally Egan and Higuita managed to connect with the lead.

There was the attack by Bernardo Suaza and later by Alejandro Osorio, survivors of the main escape. With the wear and tear of the day, Higuita and Bernal tried – unsuccessfully – to reach Osorio’s wheel, who was left alone at the top of the race.

In the final 100 meters, Alejandro ‘El Pony’ Osorio had time to open his arms and celebrate his title in the Plaza de Bolívar in Tunja. Higuita was second, four seconds behind the winner, and Egan finished third with the same difference.
