Tim Alexei Navalny accused the authorities Russia trying to cover up the traces of the murder of Navalny. Russia is said to have refused to hand over the body of the dead Kremlin critic to his relatives.
“It is clear that the killers wanted to cover their tracks and therefore did not hand over Alexei’s body, even hiding it from his mother,” his team said in a post on Telegram reported AFPSaturday (17/2/2024).
Meanwhile, Russian investigators have informed one of Alexei Navalny’s lawyers that the cause of his death in prison remains unknown, Navalny’s spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysh, said.

Yarmysh said on social media X, the lawyer was told that results of a new examination of the body would only be available next week and he accused officials of lying to avoid handing over the body to the family.
The body of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny is not in the morgue where prison authorities say it is being kept, his team said on social media.
Navalny’s lawyer arrived in the city of Salekhard with Navalny’s mother, Lyudmila, on Saturday (17/2), and went to the local morgue.
“The place was closed even though the prison said that it was open and that Navalny’s body was there,” Navalny’s team said via Telegram.
The lawyer called the morgue number he saw on the door and was told that “Alexei’s body is not at the morgue,” the post said.
Navalny’s supporters called for his body to be immediately returned to the family. Russia said an investigation into the cause of his sudden death was still ongoing.
