The Argentine Senate has converted into law with a large majority a project of job inclusion for the trans, transsexual and transgender population, which provides that at least 1% of the places available in the public administration are reserved for these categories. The bill, writes the Telam news agency, obtained 55 votes in favor and 1 against, while six senators decided to abstain. The process of approving the law in the Senate was followed by various representatives of the trans community, who spoke of a “historic day” for the respect of civil rights.
Article 5 of the new law establishes that the three powers of the national state, ministries, decentralized or self-sufficient bodies, non-state public bodies, enterprises and state companies, must employ 1% of the staff with persons belonging to to trans, transsexual and transgender groups. The provision, which will be promulgated by the president of the republic, finally provides for incentives for the private sector that will be able to hire trans personnel benefiting from reductions in tax contributions for one year, and for two in the case of small businesses.
