“Neverkusen” has done this and that with style.

Bayer Leverkusen have won their first ever Bundesliga title thanks to a 5-0 win over Werder Bremen Sunday.

Already, despite six gameweeks remaining this season, Xabi Alonso’s side needed just one more win at the weekend to secure the Bundesliga title thanks to their impressive run of results. Leverkusen went into Sunday’s game against Werder Bremen without a single defeat throughout the campaign – both domestically and on the continent.

And, as expected, Leverkusen dominated at the Bay Arena, taking victory thanks to goals from Victor Boniface, Granit Xhaka and a hat-trick from Florian Wirtz.

In the 23rd minute, Leverkusen deserved their opening goal thanks to a penalty awarded after a foolish challenge from Jonas Hofmann in the box. Victor Boniface stepped up to the chalk mark and made no mistake, firing low into the net.

Although we had to wait until the 60th minute for the second goal, Bayer Leverkusen was clearly stronger. The goal came from ex-Arsenal player Granit Xhaka, who curled the ball wonderfully into the top left corner of the net from 30 meters out.

Not long after, it was 3-0, won by Florian Richard Wirtz who also made it 4-0 in the 83rd minute and finished it all by completing a hat-trick in the 90th minute.

Remarkably, this is the first time Leverkusen have ever won the league title. They have ended up in an “unlucky” second place on five previous occasions.

FCK – and are on the brink of the UEFA Europa League semi-finals after beating West Ham 2-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final. – last clash last week.
