Benfica remains alive in the fight for the Portuguese title. This Monday, the Lisbon team defeated Farense 3-1, in a game played at the São Luis Stadium, in Faro. With the triumph, the Reds are in second place, with 73 points, seven less than leader Sporting. Farense is 10th, with 31 points.
Calendar
In the next round, Farense seeks to recover against Estrela Amadora, away from home. Benfica faces Sporting Braga, at Estádio da Luz.
FIRST TIME
Favorites for the duel, Benfica started the game on top of their opponent, but only managed to break through the home team’s defense in the 16th minute. With a low cross, Kokçu appeared alone in the penalty area to make it 1-0.
Farense, who did little when he had the ball at his feet, ‘found’ his goal from a dead ball. After overcoming the defense, Belloumi released his foot and shot into the net.
Before ending the initial stage, Benfica returned to the lead with Arthur Cabral. At the cross, the center forward, with great skill, deflected it towards the goal.
SECOND TIME
With the advantage on the scoreboard, Benfica managed the result and, as a bonus, managed to increase Carreras’s finish. With a firm shot in the penalty area, he hit the goalkeeper’s corner, who could do nothing.
The Reds’ advantage could even be greater thanks to Arthur Cabral. The Brazilian received the ball in the penalty area and delivered a beautiful shot. Well placed, Ricardo Velho made a great save.
