US President Biden participated in the 100th anniversary of the “Tulsa Genocide”

[China News Service Houston]US President Biden visited Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 1 to participate in the 100th anniversary of the “Tulsa Genocide”. Biden said that the country must face the crime of genocide and reflect on racial inequality.
According to the Associated Press, Biden visited the Greenwood Cultural Center in Tulsa that day and met with the survivors of the massacre and three centenarians.
On May 31 and June 1, 1921, white mobs attacked and set fire to the black community of Greenwood. About 300 blacks, including women and children, were killed and about 10,000 blacks were left homeless. After the incident, the rioters were not punished and the victims were not compensated.
In a speech in Tulsa that day, Biden said that this was not a riot, it was a massacre, and one of the most tragic massacres in American history. Biden said, “I am here to fill the silence” and “The country must face up to crimes. These massacres have been forgotten by history for too long.”
Biden also announced a series of policies aimed at promoting racial equality that day, including expanding federal contracts with small businesses, investing tens of billions of dollars in poor communities such as Greenwood, and taking new measures to combat housing discrimination.
