SHEFFIELD, England (AP) — Brighton took full advantage of Mason Holgate’s early sending off and beat bottom-place Sheffield United 5-0 in the Premier League on Sunday.

Sheffield had just achieved its third victory of the season against Luton last weekend, but all hope of achieving successes disappeared after Holgate’s iron on Kaoru Mitoma in the 13th minute. He was first shown yellow, but it was changed to red after the VAR review.

Goals from Argentina’s Facundo Buonanotte and Danny Welbeck in a four-minute span put the visitors up 2-0 before the 25th minute. Brighton finished it off with a burst of three goals at the end, including a double from Ivorian Simon Adingra, the new champion in the African Cup of Nations.

A point would have taken Sheffield off the bottom of the table, ahead of Burnley, but they remain in the basement. Sheffield have conceded 65 goals in 25 games, the most in history at this point in the season.

For its part, Brighton overtook West Ham and Newcastle to place seventh.
