Lara Gut-Behrami failed to secure the Giant’s Crystal Globe. Third in Are, the Ticino is only 95 points ahead of Federica Brignone (1st Saturday) in the discipline rankings.
The scenario is certainly not the one she dreamed of. Lara Gut-Behrami, who won her 90th World Cup podium on Saturday, would have validated her giant coronation in the event of 2nd place behind Federica Brignone. But Sara Hector came in 2nd place in this penultimate winter giant.
Leader after the initial round with 0”61 ahead of Lara Gut-Behrami and 1″16 over Federica Brignone, Sara Hector did not survive the second round. The Swede failed in the end at 0″33 of the Italian, author of a fiery second round, but kept 0″07 ahead of the Ticino.

Victorious four times this winter in the basic discipline of alpine skiing, Lara Gut-Behrami remains ideally placed to win her first little Giant Globe. A 15th place on March 17 in Saalbach will be enough for her to become the first Swiss woman to triumph in the specialty since Sonja Nef in 2001/02.
Gut-Behrami, who is also at the top of the downhill and super-G rankings, has also not managed to take shelter in the general: her margin over Federica Brignone is only 286 points. There are five races remaining on the program, including two slaloms. But the Italian didn’t score any points in slalom this winter…
