berita.depok.go.id – Chairman of the Depok City National Zakat Amil Agency (BAZNAS), Endang Ahmad Yani, explained that Zakat, Infaq and Alms (ZIS) funds managed by the educational unit’s Zakat Management Unit (UPZ), can be distributed to underprivileged students. Apart from that, it can also be used for school purposes or needs.
“So zakat, infaq and alms collected through UPZ schools can be reused for underprivileged students. Not only students, but also for school guards, cleaners and local communities who need it,” he said via the Depok Education Department (Disdik) Podcast. which aired on YouTube, Tuesday (26/03/24).
He said, there are eight asnaf recipients of zakat according to the Qur’an. Among others, the poor, poor, amil, muallaf, gharimin, riqab, fii sabilillah and ibnu sabil.
“Zakat must be distributed to asnaf, according to what is written in the Koran. Of course with different percentages according to the provisions. Then can it be given to non-Muslim students who are indigent, the answer is yes, but in the form of infaq, not zakat, ” he said.
Ustaz Yani, his nickname, hopes that, through UPZ managed by each educational unit, awareness can be raised about the importance of paying zakat. Because this zakat will later be returned to those in need.
“The use can be returned to the school, for students who need it. Hopefully teachers, parents, students and school residents can understand the importance of giving zakat. Especially in this month of forgiveness and full of blessings, let’s increase our faith and good habits, one of which is through alms ,” he concluded. (JD 08/ ED 01).
