Developments on fourth day of war in Ukraine: Zelensky opens door to foreign volunteers Putin orders nuclear deterrent on alert | News | Al Jazeera

The US, Canada, France, Italy, UK, Germany and the European Commission decided to disconnect Russian banks from the SWIFT global remittance system in an effort to escalate Western sanctions on Russia; Russia is waging a military war on neighbouring Ukraine.

Fierce fighting continues on all fronts as Russia’s military operation enters its fourth day, with sirens blaring after a fresh round of Russian bombing in the capital Kiev.

Politically, European foreign ministers are expected to discuss on Sunday a collective agreement to provide financial and military support to Kiev while raising the level of economic sanctions on Russia, including closing European airspace to Aeroflot.

The Greek foreign ministry summoned the Russian ambassador to Athens after 10 civilians of Greek origin were killed by Russian shelling near the Ukrainian city of Mariupol.
