Duties and Functions of the Directorate General of Taxes:
1. Tax Collection
One of the DJP’s main duties is to collect taxes. The DJP is tasked with collecting taxes from various sources, such as income tax, value added tax (VAT), land and building tax (PBB), and various other types of taxes. Tax collection is carried out with the aim of financing state development and meeting community needs.
2. Tax Counseling and Education
DJP also has a function in providing counseling and education to the public regarding taxation. This outreach aims to increase public understanding regarding tax obligations, the rights and obligations of taxpayers, as well as the benefits of paying taxes. With tax counseling and education, it is hoped that the public can understand the importance of paying taxes appropriately and correctly.
3. Tax Law Enforcement
In carrying out its duties, the DJP also has a function in enforcing tax law. The DJP has the authority to carry out inspections, supervision and action against tax violations. This is done to ensure taxpayer compliance in fulfilling tax obligations. DJP also collaborates with other law enforcement officials, such as the police and prosecutors, in taking action against tax violations.
