Rock legends like Bruce Springsteen and John Fogerty have cited him as a crucial inspiration – and in the 90s his distinctive twang guitar sound saw a revival when his song ‘The Trembler’ was included on the soundtrack to Oliver Stone’s neo-classic Natural Born Killers.
Now has Duane Eddy passed away at the age of 86 – left a legacy as one of rock music’s relatively few truly style-creating instrumentalists.
“Duane inspired an entire generation of guitarists worldwide with his unmistakable ‘twang’ sound,” sums up a spokesperson for the late rock legend – here quoted from Variety – adding: “He was rock’s first guitar god, and a truly humble and incredible human being, he will be deeply missed.”
Eddy wrote himself into rock history with a string of enduring instrumental numbers in the ’50s and ’60s – including ‘Rebel-Rouser’, ‘Peter Gunn’ and ‘Because They’re Young’.
