The bronze is Eitrem’s first WC medal. However, he has a team tempo gold from the EC in Heerenveen earlier this year.
– It is incredibly large. My goal was to get on the podium, and then it’s not very far to the other two, said Eitrem to NRK.
Eitrem went in the seventh pair and clocked in at 6.09.00. The 22-year-old has a personal best of 6.07.73. He set it in January in Salt Lake City.
It was Dutch victory for Patrick Roest in 6.07.28, while Italian Davide Ghiotto took the silver with 6.08.61.
Hallgeir Engebråten and Kristian Gamme Ulekleiv were also in action in the 5000 meters in Calgary. They finished in 10th and 14th place respectively after clocking in at 6.18.49 and 6.22.91.
– It was hard, but it was actually quite good compared to what I have delivered earlier this year, Ulekleiv told NRK after his race.
