SV Elversberg won the promoted duel in the 2nd Bundesliga against VfL Osnabrück and exacerbated the sporting crisis at the bottom of the table.
Thanks to goals from Manuel Feil (36th minute), Hugo Vandermersch (38th) and Paul Wanner (45th + 5), the Saarland team easily won 3-1 (3-0) in front of 9,500 spectators and now have 32 points on the account. The Osnabrückers (12), for whom Maxwell Gyamfi (52) scored, have to start planning for the 3rd league after their 15th game without a win in a row.
The game started a quarter of an hour late after Osnabrück fans loosened the safety net in front of their block so that they could hang a protest poster against an investor’s entry into the German Football League. Around 40 seconds after kick-off, the game had to be interrupted again because tennis balls flew from the visitors’ block onto the lawn.
Elversberg turns up the heat before the break
When things finally got going, there was little happening in front of either goal. After about half an hour the home team turned up the heat and decided the game before the break. All three goals were prepared by the outstanding Jannik Rochelt, who also hit the crossbar with a soulful shot.
The guests only woke up after the change. First, Erik Engelhardt was denied by SVE goalkeeper Nicolas Kristof, and a little later Gyamfi scored after Noel Niemann had hit the crossbar. But it wasn’t enough anymore.
