At least 56 people were killed and dozens more were injured in an air strike on a refugee camp in Northern Ethiopia. The BBC reports, citing humanitarian workers. Images disseminated on social media presumably show people treated in a school in the city of Dedebit, in the Tigré region. The news has not been confirmed by independent sources. Unspecified sources have also provided photographs of hospital injuries, including a number of children. It is not clear how or why the school was affected. On Friday, the government announced the release of several high-profile opposition figures, including leaders of the rebel Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). The prime minister, Abiy Ahmed, motivated the decision with the intention of achieving national reconciliation and to promote “unity”.
