Wiedemar. – After the serious bus accident with four deaths and 35 injuries on the A9 near Leipzig on Monday morning, investigators are looking for the cause of the accident. “First, numerous witness interviews must be carried out. Of course, this will take some time,” said a police spokeswoman.

The police are investigating suspicion of negligent homicide. It was said that no further information could be given at the moment about the course of the accident.

Flixbus accident on the A9 near Leipzig: Police correct the number of deaths to four

The police initially reported five deaths, but corrected the number to four late on Monday evening. “A person who was initially reported to the police as deceased is in a life-threatening condition,” the police said. It is currently unknown why the person with life-threatening injuries was initially reported as having died.

According to the police, the victims who died at the scene of the accident were a 47-year-old woman from Poland, a 20-year-old woman from Indonesia who lived in Berlin and a 19-year-old from Bavaria. Another woman who died on site has not yet been identified.

According to police, the majority of people were released from the hospital uninjured or after receiving outpatient treatment for minor injuries. Six people suffered serious injuries and remain in hospital treatment.

The double-decker Flixbus left the road on Wednesday morning on the A9 between the Wiedemar junction and the Schkeuditzer Kreuz for reasons that are still unclear, raced across the grass verge and tipped over on its side. According to Flixbus, there were 53 passengers and two drivers on the bus, which was on the way from Berlin to Zurich.

According to police, occupants of another bus provided first aid. Two people suffered shock and required medical attention.

According to initial findings, no other vehicle was probably involved in the accident. The A9 was completely closed around the accident site for twelve hours. The identification of the dead was not yet completed on Wednesday evening.
