The former “Tagesthemen” presenter Hannelore Gadatsch died in Baden-Baden at the age of 82. Südwestrundfunk (SWR) announced this on Thursday, citing her family.
Gadatsch, who was born in Berlin, died on Monday. SWR director Kai Gniffke said: “Hannelore Gadatsch was one of the first women to moderate the “Tagesthemen”, a pioneer of television journalism.”
According to the information, Gadatsch moderated the news program on Erste in 1984 and 1985. Previously, she worked, among other things, in the “Report Baden-Baden” editorial team at what was then Südwestfunk (SWF).
She has received many awards for her films, including the German Social Prize twice: for a “Report” article about medical malpractice and for the SWF documentary “What People Do to People – About the Treatment of Torture Victims in Berlin and Copenhagen”.
Gadatsch also dealt with the drought and forced relocations in Ethiopia. Gniffke said she achieved a lot with her documentaries.
