The fire was reported to the cantonal police shortly before 7 a.m., they said. Fire brigades from Domat/Ems and the city of Chur as well as the Ems-Chemie plant fire brigade responded with around 120 emergency services.
Despite the rapid intervention, the firefighters were unable to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings, the police wrote. After around three hours, the fires were mostly under control.
No people were injured. Three people were examined for suspected smoke inhalation, but all were able to go home after the examination.
In addition to the fire brigades, employees from the Office for Nature and the Environment, the municipality of Domat/Ems and the Chur rescue service were on duty. The residents were cared for by the Grischun Care Team. All vehicle traffic on the main road through the village was diverted over a large area.
