The French National Assembly reported the extension of the compulsory health pass to 31 July, after the Senate – with a right-wing majority – had brought it forward to 28 February. A course correction that goes in the direction desired by the government.
The provision was approved with 147 yes, 125 no and two abstentions and restores the original text of the draft law on health supervision.
Now it’s up to the Senate to rule again, while the deputies will give the final green disc on Friday. The turning point comes after a night marathon on about 500 amendments, mostly presented by the Républicains but also by the left. At the center of the criticism is what is called a blank delegation to the government.
The right accuses the measure of giving a free hand to the executive in a period up to the presidential elections. The provision could become the subject of an appeal to the Constitutional Court.
