France, the trial for the 1980 Paris synagogue attack begins

PARIS – Forty-three years after the attack on the rue Copernic synagogue in Paris, in which there were four dead and dozens injured, the trial of the only defendant has begun: Hassan Diab, 69-year-old Lebanese-Canadian professor, absent from court. Diab fled to Canada in 2018 after being released from prison because the investigation, one of the longest in French counter-terrorism, had been closed.
