In the decision between two promises of Brazilian tennis, the victory went to the oldest. Gustavo Heide, 22, beat João Fonseca, 17, in the Asunción Challenger final, held this Sunday in the Paraguayan capital. Heide’s victory, who won the first tournament of this level in her career, was achieved with partials of 7/5, 6/7 (6/8) and 6/1.
The first set of the decision in Paraguay was a festival of breaks. Gustavo Heide twice knocked down João Fonseca’s serve and quickly opened 4/1. But the young car from Rio reacted, returned both breaks and tied at 5/5. When he had the chance to take the lead, however, Fonseca was again unable to confirm his serve. Heide then took advantage and managed to close the initial partial at 7/5 after 1h06 of play.
The defeat in the opening set did not discourage João Fonseca. The 17-year-old tennis player got a break straight away and opened 3/0. As in the first round, the two tennis players had difficulty confirming their services. With another break on each side, the score was 5/2 for Fonseca.
