“Hamas ready to renounce Israel’s total withdrawal from Gaza”: first steps towards a new truce in Paris

Israel and the mediators exit from Paris with small steps forward made towards a new one truce of Gaza. As some Israeli sources say, “we are still far from an agreement but Hamas he abandoned some of his requests following the prime minister’s hardening Benjamin Netanyahu“, but the situation seems to have been resolved. From the meeting, which was attended by the delegation of Tel Avivthe head of the CIA William Burns and emissaries of Egypt e Qatara new draft agreement emerges on some points which will be analyzed in the evening by the Israeli war cabinet and which will have to be subjected to scrutiny by Hamas.

The most important changes, from what we learn from the international media, concern the decision of the armed Palestinian party to renounce the request for a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, to lower the number of Palestinian prisoners in Tel Aviv prisons who should be released and to accept a truce of six weeks, without demanding a lasting ceasefire. The group, however, calls for Israel to withdraw from the main population centers, allowing displaced people to return to Gaza City, and the release of 200-300 Palestinian prisoners in this first phase.

For the moment, these are only hypotheses that will have to find the approval of both parties, but there is still time to work on them, given that the declared objective is to reach a halt to the hostilities in time to the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. Meanwhile, Benjamin Netanyahu makes it known that the military plans are also moving forward: “We are working to obtain another scheme for the release of our hostages, as well as to complete the elimination of the Hamas battalions in Rafah“, he said, confirming that this evening Israel will discuss “the next steps of the negotiations”. Netanyahu added however that he will convene the cabinet “at the beginning of the week to approve the operational plans of action in Rafah, including the evacuation of the civilian population from there. Only a combination of military pressure and resolute negotiations will lead to the release of our hostages, the elimination of Hamas and the achievement of all objectives.”

The Israeli Foreign Minister, Israel Katzinstead returns to attack the United Nations, condemning the Human Rights Council’s appeal to launch a Arms embargo on Israel. “The UN – he denounced on X – has cooperated with Hamas terrorists and is trying to damage Israel’s right to defend itself and its citizens. Ignoring the war crimes, sexual crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Hamas terrorists is a stain on the UN that cannot be erased.”
