Hofer Hot starts with 5G tariffs

From now on there is also faster internet from the mobile phone provider Hot von Hofer. The 5G tariffs are available as separate packages for cell phones. This also applies to the internet tariff. Ventocom boss Michael Krammer expects many new customers, especially around the Euro.

The new mobile communications standard has now actually arrived in Austria. After Spusu, Hot (Hofer) is now also announcing special packages for smartphone and internet tariffs from Wednesday, January 24th. The 5G tariffs come despite the previous study on 5G in Austria.

Since the introduction of 5G in Austria, Ventocom managing director Michael Krammer has been asked when the new, fast mobile communications standard will also become part of the hot offer. He remained cautious about it until the end. In the summer of last year he said that there was hardly any demand for it. Of course, the big three operators see things differently and have been advertising 5G tariffs for some time. Nevertheless, the market agent study carried out on behalf of Ventocom shows a few surprising findings.

Customers are now very price sensitive

Accordingly, 39.3 percent of those surveyed said that they were already using a 5G tariff. However, the picture from the Austrian regulatory authority RTR paints a different picture: according to this, only just under ten percent (9.59 percent) of Austrians surf the home network with a 5G SIM. Where does this discrepancy come from?

For Krammer, the difference is easily explained: “People are not that concerned with these technologies. They don’t care.” In addition, the technical difference is hardly noticeable for customers.

On the other hand, the willingness to change is significantly higher and preferences were also asked here. Right at the forefront; by far Hot from Hofer. The mobile communications veteran with more than two decades of experience in the domestic market expects further shifts, especially in April. It can be assumed that the mobile phone providers A1 Telekom Austria, Drei and Magenta will make their contractually secured index adjustments. Price increases of up to eight percent can be expected here, as Krammer says. These price increases usually result in a postponement. This was also observed last year. In 2023 alone, Ventocom will have more than 100,000 new customers.

The slim tariff structure, the promise not to increase prices and the lack of an annual service fee are among the arguments for switching to Hot. And even with the introduction of 5G, Ventocom remains true to its chosen course.

The euro will give 5G tariffs a boost

There are two offers for the smartphone tariffs that can be canceled monthly. The “Hot Fix” tariff for 9.90 euros with 40 gigabytes of data volume and 1000 minutes of SMS or telephony can be increased from 50 Mbit per second to 100 Mbit per second for an additional five euros.

The same applies to the “Hot Fix Mega”. The 50 Gigbayte tariff with 5G then costs five euros more instead of 14.90 euros.

While the current survey may show that customers don’t care that much about the distinction between 4G and 5G, Krammer believes interest will increase. The upcoming European Football Championship in the summer will play its part in this. Nowadays, when stadiums are sold out, there is always a data jam because too many people are trying to broadcast their images to the wider world at the same time. “I am convinced that many of our customers will then take advantage of the offer. And some will probably stay,” says Krammer.

And because mobile internet is still very popular in Austria, these tariffs are also being adjusted. The 20-euro “Hot Internet” offer with unlimited data volume will cost 30 euros with 5G and also offers 100 Mbit per second.
