All six Austrians who competed qualified for the Ski Flying World Cup in Planica on Thursday.
Daniel Huber took third place with 227.0 m, Stefan Kraft took sixth place with 220.5 m. Daniel Tschofenig (211.5), Jan Hörl (203.0), Manuel Fettner (203.5) and Michael Hayböck (199.5) took places 14, 20, 21 and 27. The qualifying winner was the Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi (230.0) in front of Piotr Zyla, the Pole flew the furthest at 241.0 m despite a lower hatch.
Some falls
There were a few falls at the start of the flight on the slightly converted traditional ski jump. The Kazakh Sergei Tkachenko lost control of his skis after the jump in training and hit the stem, the American Casey Larson and the Finn Eetu Nousianen fell in the qualification. Three years ago, Norwegian Daniel-Andre Tande had a serious fall in Planica.
For Friday (3:30 p.m./LIVE ticker) and Sunday (9:30 a.m/LIVE-Ticker), individual competitions are scheduled, and a team competition is scheduled for Saturday (9:30 a.m./LIVE ticker). For Kraft it’s about winning the ski flying world cup, Huber is one of his competitors for winning the small ball.
The women will contest their season finale on Thursday (today) on the normal hill in Planica (5 p.m., live ORF 1).
