A “The Naked Gun” reboot with Liam Neeson in the lead role will hit theaters in 2025. The actor, who actually subscribes to action films, has now spoken about his role as Frank Drebin Jr. – and admitted a certain nervousness.

“The Naked Gun” is one of the greatest and most formative comedies of all time – and finally declared lead actor Leslie Nielsen as police officer Frank Drebin a comedy legend. A reboot is currently in the making under the direction of director Akiva Schaffer (“Chip & Chap: The Knights of the Law”). The main role will be played by Liam Neeson (“96 Hours”), who appears here as Frank Drebin Jr. in front of the camera.
In an interview with Collider, the Irishman, who is actually known for grim action films, spoke about the upcoming “The Naked Gun” reboot and admitted that he was definitely nervous about taking on the lead role here:

“Of course the script has to be funny and have some kind of theme, a story, albeit quite loosely, that runs through the script and not just a series of gags that can get boring very, very quickly. Yes, it’s an honor to be offered the role of Frank and I’m a little nervous about it because I’ve only done a few sketches on very short TV shows. But this is, I don’t know, 95, 100 minutes of film.”

In the conversation, Neeson also explained that he wants to do his own thing instead of following Leslie Nielsen’s game – even though he is a big fan of the actor: “I’ll do my own thing. I remember Leslie very well. I love these films. Especially ‘The Incredible Journey in a Crazy Plane’.”
It will be interesting to see what Liam Neeson, Akiva Schaffer, screenwriters Dan Gregor and Doug Mand as well as producer Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”) will ultimately come up with here. “The Naked Gun” is scheduled to open in German cinemas on July 17, 2025.
