Now even cheaper: Magenta TV with Netflix, Disney+ and RTL+ from 9 euros per month

Update (22.03.2024): From now on, the Magenta TV Smartstream tariff only costs 12 euros per month from the 7th month onwards instead of the previous 17 euros. This reduces the total costs to 216 euros for a term of 24 months. This corresponds to a price of just 9 euros per month.

Update (23.02.2024): We received feedback that the provider Sparhandy would sell a cell phone tariff for the Magenta TV subscription. After consulting Sparhandy, we can confirm that this is not the case. For technical reasons, Sparhandy cannot currently hide the “phone number portability” field from its shop system. The function is deactivated; porting your phone number is not possible with this tariff. Even at checkout, only the Magenta TV subscription is displayed in the shopping cart. According to its own information, Sparhandy is working on a solution to optimize the display.

Telekom has released new packages for the TV streaming offer Magenta TV. Particularly exciting are combination subscriptions at sparhandy.de, which, in addition to 150 TV channels in HD with recording functions, also include Disney+, Netflix and/or RTL+ – with or without advertising, depending on your wishes. Depending on the tariff, the combination offers are so cheap that an additional streaming provider (guide) is basically free.

Waipu.tv recently caused a stir with an annual package (promotion has already expired) with streaming stick, TV streaming and Paramount+. The abolition of the additional cost privilege (guide) by the end of June 2024 is getting closer, meaning that many providers are entering into a price war. Waiput.tv also adjusted its offering on February 23rd. Here customers now pay 9.99 instead of 12.99 euros for the first 24 months.

Private and public TV channels

With Magenta TV, access to HD television is always included. 150 private and public television channels are available as streams in full HD including a virtual video recorder. To watch you need the Magenta TV app, which is available for most smart TVs, Amazon’s Fire TV Stick and Apple TV as well as smartphones or tablets.

If you want, you can also order the Magenta TV One streaming box for an additional charge of 5 euros per month. However, we advise against this – a Fire TV stick with Full HD resolution costs between 35 and 45 euros, the 4K model costs 70 euros. Depending on the model, the purchase costs are paid off after 7 to 14 months and there are no further subscription costs. If you like, you can of course use any other streaming stick or streaming box.

Below we show all the Magenta TV offers that are currently available with discounts from the provider Sparhandy. These currently offer better conditions than the offers from telekom.de.

With RTL+ for 5 euros a month

Even the smallest offer, Magenta TV Smart, includes access to RTL+ Premium (with advertising) in addition to Magenta TV. The offer also offers the option to download content and allows for flexible playback. With a discount of 120 euros in the first 12 months, this package is an attractive option for price-conscious consumers.

For comparison: RTL+ Premium with advertising costs 6.99 euros per month on RTL itself. Mathematically, the Telekom offer comes to 5 euros per month – so it is cheaper than RTL+ Premium and there is also access to the television channels.

to offer

With RTL+, Netflix & Disney+ for effectively 9 euros per month

For those who want more streaming services at a bargain price, Magenta TV Smartstream is the ideal choice. This offer includes the well-known 150 HD channels and RTL+ Premium with advertising. For an additional charge of 4 euros, i.e. 9 euros per month, you can also add Netflix and Disney+ – each of which is the small package with advertising. For comparison: RTL+ Premium costs 6.99 euros per month, the Netflix standard subscription with advertising costs 4.99 euros, Disney+ Standard with advertising costs 5.99 euros per month. With Magenta TV Smartstream that effectively amounts to 9 euros instead of 17.97 per month over 24 months, which corresponds to a saving of almost 50 percent – and there is HD TV with a recording function on top of that.

RTL+, Netflix & Disney+ without advertising for 20.25 euros per month

The large Magenta TV Megastream package offers the options mentioned above, but with the higher-quality subscriptions to RTL+, Disney+ & Netflix without advertising. Disney+ Standard otherwise costs 8.99 euros per month, Netflix Standard costs 12.99 euros per month, RTL+ without advertising costs 9.99 euros per month – although the comparison with RTL is a bit lagging. Because for 9.99 euros you also get a music subscription from RTL itself, while Telekom offers “only” RTL+ without advertising and without music. As a comparison price, we prefer to use the 6.99 euros for RTL+ with advertising, look forward to the absence of the annoying spots and come to 29 euros per month – so even without advertising you save around 30 percent on the normal subscription price. There is also TV in HD and RTL+ without advertising.

Do I have to watch Netflix, Disney & Co. via the Magenta app?

No, subscribers to the Magenta streaming offer first sign a contract with Telekom. There is then the option to register with Netflix & Co. using a special link. The new account is then activated immediately and works like a normal Netflix subscription – with the app for tablet or cell phone, in the browser on the computer or on a smart TV or streaming stick.

I already have a subscription to Netflix. How can I save?

We are particularly pleased about the providers’ relaxed approach to existing accounts. Anyone who already has a current subscription can simply connect their accounts after concluding the contract with Telekom. In the case of Netflix, you simply log in to Netflix with your existing account, the tariffs are linked – and Netflix no longer debits money from your account or credit card as long as the Magenta offer is running. If you cancel Magenta TV, the subscription will revert to the previous payment method with Netflix.

This also means that all lists, favorites and series that have already been seen are taken over.

Use Magenta TV via streaming stick

If you don’t want to use Apple TV, Fire TV stick or Magenta TV app, you can order the Magenta TV One hardware for 5 euros per month or 169 euros as a one-off payment. The scope of delivery then includes a television control with program buttons, the corresponding cables, a power supply and the operating instructions – but as already written, we would rather go for a much cheaper streaming stick.

Backlight for more atmosphere

You can effectively expand your television content with colored LED strips. This means there is more atmosphere in a series, film or documentary. Retrofit sets are available from 30 euros and adapt the color depending on the film content shown. We show the best solutions in the guide Smart light for TVs and monitors from 30 euros.

Data volume for streaming

Aside from the streaming offerings, Freenet is also cranking up the advertising drum. Customers are currently receiving 60 GB (max. 100 MBit/s) on the Vodafone network for 14.99 euros per month. The tariff offers flat rates for SMS and telephony and is price stable for 24 months. This offer is of course particularly interesting for streaming on the go. The deal is valid until February 28, 2024 until 11:59 p.m.
