In Pakistan, heavy rains have caused dozens of deaths

At least fifty people are death in Pakistan due to the flooding and landslides caused by the intense rains that began on Monday, which hit in particular the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the eastern province of Punjab, on the border with India: at least 21 people died here, mostly leaves after being struck by lightning.

The Pakistani natural disaster management authority has released an alert due to possible landslides and flash floods. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a televised address that he had ordered authorities to provide humanitarian aid in areas where the rains had caused the most damage.

Climate change has increased the risk of extreme events such as floods in some parts of the world, including Pakistan. In the summer of two years ago, a series of floods had submerged a third of Pakistan’s territory and caused more than 1,700 deaths, in an area inhabited by more than thirty-three million people.
