(LaPresse) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a controversial Hindu temple built on the ruins of a historic mosque in the northern city of Ayodhya in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The inauguration of the temple, still under construction, is dedicated to the god Rama and meets the long-standing request made by millions of Hindus who venerate this deity. Modi, dressed in the traditional Kurta, led the opening ceremony amid religious hymns sung by Hindu priests inside the temple sanctuary, where a stone sculpture of the god Rama was installed last week.
