Recent leaks from sources such as Insider Gaming et you YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead shed new light on the much-anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro and would reveal numerous technical specifications.
Power and speed
One of the main revelations concerns the computing power of the PlayStation 5 Pro. According to rumors, the Pro version, which will be released at the end of 2024, expected to boast 33.5 teraflops of graphics powera clear increase compared to its predecessor (10.3 teraflops).
In terms of base rendering speed, the PlayStation 5 Pro should be approximately 45% faster than its predecessor. This improvement aims to provide a gameplay plus fluidebetter graphics and faster loading times.
To put this into perspective, let’s compare the PlayStation 5 Pro’s claimed 33.5 teraflops to some current-generation graphics cards. The current NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090, for example, offers around 35.6 teraflops of computing power.
While the PlayStation 5 Pro is said to lag slightly behind the RTX 3090 in terms of raw teraflops, it’s important to note that consoles can often achieve significant performance optimizations due to their specific design.
According to Insider Gamingthe PS5 Pro should be launched before Christmas 2024. And according to the channel Moore’s Law is DeadSony’s own First-Party Studios have reportedly been testing PS5 Pro dev kits since September 2023, while third-party vendors gained access in January.
No confirmation from Sony
The leaked documents, which were allegedly uploaded to Sony’s developer portal, further reveal a new feature called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). According to this document, PSSR uses machine learning to upscale images, like Nvidia’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR.
What is notable is that this technology could also include scaling to 8K resolutions in future versionspromising a significant improvement in visual quality. Furthermore, the PSSR is expected to improve the performance of the ray tracing.
The allegedly leaked technical specifications of the PlayStation 5 Pro certainly promise impressive computing power. But as is usual in this kind of situation, Sony has so far neither confirmed nor denied its existence and has not released official details about the console.
