The tension between Israel and Iran increasingly hot after the airstrikes that killed senior Iranian commanders. Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and BHI at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) Judha Nugraha ensured that his party together with the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran and Indonesian representatives in the Middle East continued to monitor the situation in the region.

“In accordance with the SOP, every Indonesian representative is required to have a contingency plan to anticipate emergency situations for the protection of Indonesian citizens,” said Judha in his statement, Saturday (13/4/2024).

He said that currently the number of Indonesian citizens in Iran is 376 people. Most of them are students and live in Qom City.

“The number of Indonesian citizens in Iran is 376 people and the majority are students who live in the city of Qom,” he said.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran and Indonesian representatives in the Middle East continue to monitor the situation in the region,” he added.

As is known, Iran has threatened to retaliate against Israel for the attack in Damascus, Syria, on April 1. This attack killed seven people, including members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and two generals.

United States President Joe Biden previously also said that Iran’s attack on Israel could be faster. Biden is committed to defending Israel if Iran attacks the country.

“(Iran’s attack) could be sooner than anticipated,” Biden said.

Biden has also asked Iran ‘not’ to carry out attacks. If Iran continues to attack, the US will defend Israel. Biden believes Iran will fail.

“We are committed to defending Israel. We will support Israel. We will help defend Israel and Iran will not succeed,” Biden told reporters, Friday (12/4).
