The site of the Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post was hacked, in what was identified as an apparent “threat to the country”. Instead of displaying the home page, the site showed an illustration reminiscent of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, who was murdered in a US drone strike in Iran exactly one year ago.
The illustration showed a bullet-shaped object fired from a red ring worn on a finger, an apparent reference to the distinctive ring worn by Soleimani. The Jerusalem Post tweeted that it was working to fix the problem, and the site is currently experiencing navigation difficulties. “We are aware of the apparent hacking of our site, along with a direct threat to Israel,” the newspaper said. The attack did not appear to have affected the newspaper’s mobile app, and other major Israeli news websites functioned normally.
