Two more of the six Palestinian detainees who escaped from a maximum security prison were captured by Israeli police this morning. “Two other escaped prisoners were caught hiding in a truck parking lot,” police said. Four escapes have now been captured.

Among them is Zakaria Zubeidi, the former commander in Jenin of the Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, the Palestinian militia close to al-Fatah. Together with Zubeidi, Mohammed al-Arida was arrested. The two were captured near the northern city of Shibli-Umm al-Ghanam around 5am in a parking lot used by truckers. Zubeidi tried to escape during the arrest, but was immediately blocked, according to a security official to the public broadcaster Kan. “They found them hidden under the wheel of a truck,” said a witness.

And the tension doesn’t stop at the border either. “In response to the rocket launched from Gaza on Israel” last night, the Israeli army (IDF) reports that it has “just hit a machine gun emplacement, a storage site and a military complex” located inside the Strip. “Hamas is responsible for all terrorist attacks from Gaza,” adds the IDF in a post published this morning on Twitter. Yesterday’s ballistic launch from Gaza took place shortly after the news of the arrest in Israel of two of the six Palestinian detainees who escaped days ago from the maximum security prison of Gilboa.
