Jannik Sinner, fourth in the ATP rankings, defeated Russian Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

The Italian Jannik Sinner, number four in the world, successfully defeated the Russian Andrey Rublev (fifth in the ranking), 6-4, 7-6(5) and 6-3, in two hours and 39 minutes, so who will face Serbian Novak Djokovic in the semifinals without having given up a single set since the Australian Open started.

It will be the first time that the 22-year-old player plays in a Grand Slam semifinal and it will be against a Djokovic with whom he maintained a 2-2 in their individual matches during the 2023 season.

The last three meetings between them were two matches during the ATP Finals (group stage and final), as well as in the Davis Cup semi-finals. Sinner scored the clash in the group stage of the Finals and the Davis match, while the Balkan beat him in the final of the Finals.

Sinner became the second Italian to reach the semifinals at Melbourne Park and joined the feat of Matteo Berrettini who achieved it in 2022. He also confirmed himself as the seventh Italian to reach the semifinals of a ‘slam’ on different occasions.
