In the tight race for the 2023-24 Premier League title, Liverpool fell behind. The Reds lost the local derby to Everton 2-0, this Wednesday (24), and could see Arsenal and Manchester City fire — see the table.
The goals in the Merseyside Derby were scored by Branthwaite and Calvert-Lewin, one in each half. It was Everton’s first derby victory since 2021, more than three years ago.
With that, Liverpool stops at 74 points, in second place, and sees Arsenal (77) open a three-point gap at the top. Manchester City is third, with 73 points, but has two games less than its competitors.
In other words, Arsenal and Liverpool only have four games to play in this Premier League, while Manchester City have six. Coach Jürgen Klopp, who will leave the Reds at the end of the season, could say goodbye without titles this year.
Upcoming games
Manchester City will play this Thursday (25th), away from home, against Brighton, and then on Sunday (28th), against Nottingham Forest, also as a visitor.
Arsenal and Liverpool only return to the field at the weekend. On Saturday (27), the Reds visit West Ham in London, while the Gunners have a London derby against Tottenham, on Sunday.
