Liverpool achieved a 4-1 win over Luton Town. Having fallen behind in the first half, the Reds were able to recover by scoring four goals after the break.
Liverpool host Luton Town at Anfield in Week 26 Premier League 2023/2024, Thursday, (22/2/2024). The Reds fell behind in the first half due to Chiedozie Ogbene’s goal in the 12th minute.
Juergen Klopp’s troops were able to recover after the break. They were able to turn things around after scoring a goal in the second half.

Liverpool’s equalizing goal came through Virgil van Dijk in the 56th minute. Two minutes later, Cody Gakpo put Liverpool back in the lead thanks to his goal in the 58th minute.
Luis Diaz increased Liverpool’s lead in the 71st minute. Harvey Elliott then sealed the hosts’ victory after scoring a goal in the 90th minute.
This victory brought Liverpool firmly at the top of the standings with 40 points. They are four points ahead of Man City in second place.
Meanwhile, Luton is still in the relegation zone. They are in 18th position with 20 points.

The Course of the Match
Liverpool tried to take the initiative to attack. The Reds had a chance through Cody Gakpo’s overhead kick. However, his effort was still right at Thomas Kaminski.
Luton responded from Alfie Doughty’s effort. His shot went wide though.
Luton was able to take the lead in the 12th minute. Tahith Chong’s shot was blocked by Caoimhin Kalleher.
The ball bounced from Chong’s shot but it went to Chiedozie Ogbene who was standing in front of the goal. Ogbene’s header found the back of Liverpool’s goal.
Left behind, Liverpool increased the pressure in pursuit of an equalizing goal. Gakpo tried a long-range shot but it didn’t reach the goal.
Luis Diaz had a golden opportunity when he received a mature pass from Wataru Endo. He failed to complete this opportunity well because he couldn’t hit Endo’s pass.
Ryan Gravenberch turns menacingly. Kaminski was able to block his shot from outside the penalty box.
Luton appeared disciplined to reduce Liverpool’s pressure. They were able to maintain a 1-0 lead until the first half was over.
Liverpool attacked Luton’s defense after the break. The Reds’ pressure resulted in an equalizing goal in the 56th minute. Virgil van Dijk headed Alexis MacAlister’s corner into a goal.
After two minutes, Liverpool was able to turn things around. Mac Alister’s cross from the right found Gakpo at the near post. Kaminski couldn’t stop Gakpo’s header.
Van Dijk almost scored another goal using Mac Alister’s corner kick. Kaminski was able to save his header this time.
In the 71st minute, Liverpool scored the third goal. Andrew Robertson can cut the ball well in midfield.
The ball fell into Luis Diaz’s possession. He calmly fired a shot that Kaminski couldn’t secure.
Harvey Elliott sealed Liverpool’s victory thanks to his goal in the final minute. He got a loose ball after Luton’s back line was able to stop Gakpo’s movement.
Elliott’s shot from inside the penalty box nestled into the top right corner of Luton’s goal in the 90th minute. Liverpool ended the match with a 4-1 win.
