Major League prospect dies after accident in Dominican Republic

Houston Astros prospect Ronny García tragically passed away in a traffic accident in the Dominican Republic. The incident took place on the Las Galeras Municipal District highway in the province of Samaná.

García, who was signed by the Astros in 2017, lost his life while receiving medical attention following the accident. The 24-year-old reliever sustained serious injuries after being struck by a motorcyclist. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save him, García succumbed to his injuries. His father and the motorcyclist also tragically lost their lives in the accident.

The young prospect was unable to recover from the traumas and severe injuries sustained during the collision, leading to a critical condition upon arrival at the hospital. García had signed a minor league contract with the Houston Astros when he was 18 and was eagerly awaiting his opportunity to make his mark in the Major Leagues.

The incident occurred near a fuel station in the community of Manuel Chiquito in the Las Galeras Municipal District. Reports indicate that García and his father were leaving the station when they collided with a motorcycle driven by Bernardo Andújar from the nearby Municipal District of El Limón. Authorities including members of DIGESETT, the 9-1-1 emergency unit, and the National Police responded to the scene to provide assistance.
