Meta will no longer pay for news

The IT giant, which also owns Facebook and Instagram, is moving away from an arrangement where it has paid media houses for news that is shared on the platforms. When the existing contracts expire, no new ones will be entered into, says Meta.

In addition, the news tab in Facebook is to be removed in Australia and the USA. It has already been taken away in France, Great Britain and Germany.

– To ensure that we continue to invest in products and services that drive user engagement, we will not enter into new commercial agreements for traditional news content in the relevant countries. We will also not offer Facebook products specifically for news publishers in the future, the company said in a statement on Friday.
