Metastasis Case: former Correísta legislator sought to “silence” Fernando Villavicencio, according to the Prosecutor’s Office

Ronny Aleaga, former Correísta legislator, prosecuted for the Metastasis case

(From Quito, Ecuador) – On the list of new defendants in the Metastasis case, who were charged last Friday, is the former Correísta assemblyman and member of the Latin King, Ronny Alega. The Prosecutor’s Office has presented a series of conversations that reveal Aleaga’s links with the murdered drug trafficker Leandro Norero, leader of a corruption network in the judicial system, and with his partner Xavier Jordán. Among the highlights, Attorney General Diana Salazar maintained that Aleaga tried to “silence” Fernando Villavicencio, murdered on August 9, 2023 during his presidential campaign.

Ronny Aleaga, 39, has had a political career since his participation in the defunct Alianza PAIS movement in 2006. He has held several public positions, including as a legislator in the National Assembly as a representative of Unión por la Esperanza (UNES) since 2021. During his time as a legislator he had conflicts with other politicians, including Fernando Villavicencio. The murdered politician denounced that Aleaga and other assembly members were preparing a plan to kill him hitman style – the way in which he was shot last August. In addition to Aleaga, Villavicenció pointed out Pablo Muentes, from the Christian Social Party, today detained and investigated in the Purga case.

Aleaga was part of the Latin King, one of the gangs went through a pacification and legalization process during the government of former president Rafael Correa.

In the Metastasis case, Aleaga is referred to as “Russian” in conversations with drug trafficker Leandro Norero, suggesting that he could have been involved in criminal activities to benefit the drug trafficker.

The politician has denied these accusations and has described the investigation against him as a “persecution” by the Prosecutor’s Office. According to migratory movement reports from the Judicial Police, Aleaga left the country on December 26, 2023, bound for Pasto, Colombia. During the charging hearing, Aleaga claimed to have important information to share and asked that he not be placed in preventive detention. However, Judge Felipe Córdova decided to comply with the request of the Prosecutor’s Office and ask for support from Interpol to locate the former Correísta legislator, of whom former President Rafael Correa has referred to as a source of great pride.

According to Diana Salazar at the hearing, since the money laundering process against Norero began and with the publication of the “photo of the big tits” as Villavicencio named a photograph that showed Aleaga with Jordán in a pool in Miami, the now prosecuted began to worry, especially Xavier Jordán who has initiated a judicial persecution of all the media that have investigated his illicit activities: “His (Ronny Aleaga’s) participation was aimed at silencing the person who represented the greatest source of disclosure of his criminal activities: Fernando Villavicencio,” said the Attorney General.

“Aleaga made sure to silence the voices capable of hindering this criminal activity,” said prosecutor Salazar and highlighted that, as a legislator, Aleaga sought to obtain privileged information to favor Jordán: “He was not there to review the laws, but to adapt the strategy of persecuting their opponents, to silence them,” he said.

Given the dissemination of what prosecutor Salazar said during the hearing, Aleaga wrote on We will see what Ecuador and Villavicencio’s relatives (+) think about what you (for political interests) hid about his murder.
