Exactly one month ago Toni Gerona he was fired from the bench of the Serbian national team due to “shipwreck” at the European Championship. Because of this, serious dust arose in the Handball Association of Serbia, there were also resignations, but the epilogue is that a coach has still not been found to replace the charismatic Spaniard.
Đerona himself said that “he is not stupid and that he knows that they want a Serb instead of him”. but for now, neither of the two most serious candidates has sat on the Serbian bench. They are Danijel Anđelković, who is doing a great job in Toulouse, while the famous captain of the Serbian national team has now said “no”. Momir Ilić, reports “Sportski žurnal”. According to the latest information, RSS president Milena Delić held a meeting with Ilić and heard a negative response.
The two of them talked in Palić about the potential arrival of Ilić at the helm of the national team, he was given time to think about everything that was presented to him, but Ilić still decided to stay only in Vesprem, as he believes that he would not be able to devote himself to both to another job. Leaving the Hungarian club was not considered.
So, now RSS has to turn to new solutions and find a coach as soon as possible because in April we already have the qualifications for going to the World Cup against Spain, so it is clear enough why many are running away from the “hot” bench.
