JAKARTA- There has been an increase in volcanic activity from Level II (WASPADA) to Level III (SIAGA) in Sitaro Regency, North Sulawesi Province.

Based on the results of visual and instrumental monitoring which shows an increase in volcanic activity on Mount Ruang, the activity level of Mount Ruang has been raised from Level II (Alert) to Level III (Alert) starting April 16 2024 at 16.00 WITA.

Based on the BNPB Pusdalops report, Mount Ruang in Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi erupted on Tuesday (16/4) evening. The affected locations are Pumpente Village and Pathology Village in Tagulandang District.

Report from BPBD Sitaro district, Wednesday (17/4) Mount Ruang erupted again at 01:30 WIB and there was volcanic ash rain. The communication network in Laingpatehi Village caused the communication signal to be lost.

As a result of the eruption of Mount Ruang, 272 heads of families or 828 people were displaced, with details of 45 people being in the Tagulandang District BPU building and 783 people being in the homes of friends and relatives on the mainland of Tagulandang Island.

The evacuation locations are at the GMIST Nazareth Bahoi Church, Bahoi Job Training Center, Tagulandang GOR, Public Meeting Hall (BPU) in Tagulandang District. An alternative regarding the expansion of the impact of the eruption is that houses of worship in the South Tagulandang and North Tagulandang areas will be used.

Handling the eruption of Mount Ruang, the Regent of the Siau Islands Tagulandang Biaro (Sitaro) declared an Emergency Response Status for 14 days starting from 16 – 29 April 2024. The Sitaro Regency BPBD and the North Sulawesi Province BPBD provided assistance in the form of 123 mats, 120 blankets and 400 sheets. face mask. BPBD carried out a rapid assessment, evacuation and preparation of evacuation facilities in Tagulandang District.

The people in Pathologi Village and Pumpente Village were evacuated to Tagulandang District using 2 ferry boats (KMP Lokong Banua and KMP Lohoraung plus crossing boats belonging to residents. The regional government has prepared personnel in the field consisting of BPBD, Tagulandang District officials, Village officials , Subdistrict, SatPol PP, Fire and Rescue Department with a total of 30 personnel. On Wednesday (17/4) BASARNAS Manado arrived in Tagulandang with KM BIMASENA with a strength of 20 personnel (ABK 15, Rescuer 5).

1. Communities around Mount Ruang and visitors/tourists should remain alert and not enter the 4 km radius area from the center of the active crater of Mount Ruang.
