Narcís Perich, review of his album Un día genial (2024)

Narcís Perich celebrates in style the twentieth anniversary of “The sun rises for everyone” (Discmedi, 2004), his first album. And he does so with the publication of “A Great Day” (Self-edited, 2024), his tenth studio album and, without a doubt, one of the most personal of his career.

The Catalan artist delights us with ten unpublished compositions in which we notice from the first moment that he is more Narcís than ever. Firstly because he abandons the character that he had created in the previous reference of him to show himself as he is, secondly because he uses his mother tongue, Catalan, in practically the entire album (except for “You’re very beautiful” in which it includes a part in French”) and, finally, because one of its two “collaborations” on the album includes it in “The Astronaut” and they are the voices of his nieces.

But, beyond everything that surrounds the project, Alella’s project wanted to show itself in an intimate way also within the lyrics of these ten songs. For this she wanted to make a conceptual album in which she has tried to capture the essence of a day, from the clarity and hope that the first hour of the morning gives in the luminous “a lucky guy”even the nostalgia that comes with the night and its darkness in “The guard”. In between, eight moments in which we can all feel represented in some way, since it includes themes full of memories, daily experiences and situations in which we all find ourselves, or will find ourselves, at some point.

That is why it is also an album that does not follow any stylistic rules. Just like any person on a normal day, the LP goes through different emotions and melodies, which is why we find compositions with slower rhythms like “L’atmeller”some that veer towards a sound closer to the more conventional pop that makes them stick to you at first listen, such as “A great day”, and others that even make you want to get up from your chair to dance, like one of the reference hits, “Oh, Magali.

Definitely, “A great day” It is the album with which, twenty years after the artist’s arrival on the Catalan musical scene, we came to connect with him more intimately. A work that is a delight for his staunch followers and that serves to show that, despite the passing of the years, Narcís Perich He continues to find new ways to reinvent himself and show his great compositional talent.
